October 16, 2010, I met Chester "Catman" Landry in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Chester would be considered a "character" any place in the U S of A. In our brief conversation, I got a sense of rural sugarcane country and made a friend.
I sent him the photo in the news clipping below as promised when I returned from an excellent trip that covered a great swath of southwest Louisiana. When I got an envelope in the mail last week, I recognized Chester's scrawl immediately.
One of the joys of travel is meeting people like Chester. Trust me, if I ever get close to Plaquemine again, I'll call him up.
