Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero knows what she’s got left in the tank and drives accordingly. What an instructive lesson to those of us not too far behind her in the parade.

I love your turn of phrase!!

My comments had to do with My years of dancing lessons with Miss Dolly who before one of the endless (literally, they would last 7 hours...Daddy caught on quickly and never came to a second recital, much to my chagrin). Miss Dolly would sit us all down before curtains and tell us to do our best, "Give it your Chita Revera all!"

Chita is the consummate performer. I remember as a 12 year-old at the new cinema in Peabody at the old North Shore Shopping Center, the first in the nation, and open-air, I sat mesmerized at her dancing in West Side Story and later Bye Bye Birdie, jealous that it wasn't ME up there, it should have been ME. I was a good as she was, at least that was what Mama reassured me.
