I love that you are sharing your trip to Chile with us.  It makes me feel warmer just seeing the hot, sunny fields in your pics.  A little escape from the frigid North!!   I was amused by your description of harvesting melons;  after all the weeding and chopping you do in Westport this should have been a breeze for you!!!  At least it keeps you in shape after eating all that wonderful food and drinking those great Chilean wines!!!!

We think Teresa is in her mid-fifties.... Don Pedro is my age. Juanito in his mid 70's

If they need medical care, they go to the health insurance place (or send a relative with their ID card (carnet) to get a "bono" that entitles them to a free or very low cost visit to a local clinic or doctor and/or prescription. They get lab tests the same way.

We pay payroll taxes in to the Chilean system monthly ahead of each paycheck for each employee in 3 categories - health care, accident/employment insurance and retirement.
