The Revelers
9:15 PM
Arriving from La Poussiere, things are a little different at ARTmosphere. The Revelers are a magnet for dancers and draw a far more diverse dance crowd. These guys rock.
These guys are a little piece of heaven on earth for the dance crowd. Their repertoire is deep - Cajun, swamp pop, waltzes, Texas two steps, and a hatful of honky-tonk. Each member of The Revelers plays in other bands.
The Revelers are Daniel Coolik (fiddle, electric
attire, vocals), Glenn Fields (drums and vocals), Blake Miller (accordion,
fiddle, acoustic guitar, vocals), Chas Justus (electric guitar, acoustic
guitar, vocals), Eric Frey (bass, vocals) are founding members of two solid
Louisiana roots bands, The Red Stick Ramblers and The Pine Leaf Boys. That's an
ocean of talent, folks.
The whole musician scene in Lafayette is sort of like a giant Lego set that you can disassemble and assemble at will, depending on the kind of music you want to produce – Cajun, honky-tonk, zydeco, country, rock, alt, even a little blues. You'll hear all of that here at ARTmosphere.
The crowd is mostly college-age, with a smattering of middle-aged dancers who haven't hung up their dance shoes and have fun showing the kids they still have their groove.
Small dance floor, sweaty people, big smiles, all is right with the world. Show up and The Revelers take care of the rest. Bands down here feed off the dancers. The more enthusiastic the audience, the more dancers on the floor, the more amped up the band becomes. In this case, the dancers being only a few feet from the performers, the energy transfer is clear and present.
