PT- It's so true that when we lose friends it changes so many memories from the past. Maybe we still have the memories but it's not the same is it? And sometimes old friends remember what we don't and when they go so do those memories. I loved your piece. I wonder if we ever crossed paths at the track. I used to go with my Dad quite a bit- and then during college with Sam and his buddies.

When a bunch of us went together, we spread out on the middle of the hillside, made a fair amount of noise ourselves, buzzed with the beer and the smells of hot engine oil that wafted up from the track and sounds of engines whining through the gears at peak revolutions.

This is one of the first times I've experienced this - the notion to talk to a friend about some shared experience and realizing they weren't here any more. Conry's the only one who could truly relate to The Red Protector of the People's Goods. We logged a ton of miles hauling that cooler all the way from Lime Rock to Thompson CT to the Watkins Glen Grand Prix circuit in NY, where one night we ran out of water and decided to boil chicken in beer, "Coq au Budweiser"!
