Nice story. This is one of several reasons I never use GPS. I also think that navigating with paper maps is fun.

PS - have fun on Mardi Gras in Iota.

Live and learn, I'm packing a paper map for every trip hereafter.

Mark Engelberg

Mmmm, buddy. There a better way! Wish you had asked before you left. Download Waze. You won't regret it.

Your tech buddy,

Thanks, I need all the redundancy i can get, although the problem with the phone had to do with running out of signal in the middle of nowhere.
I'll be in touch, thank you buddy!

Rebecca Wilson

Exactly why I don't fully trust all these technological wonders! And why I print out everything I need from my computer in spite of my concern for the environment.

Bambi Good

sorry for your being letdown and wonder if Siri saw "Her" and decided to abandon you, too... maybe all the female OS's are in cahoots.... I'm glad you weren't on your way to an airport or to a hospital and that it made great writing material, but that's about it for being glad.... AND thanks for the warning... that's why I usually take printed out directions with me when heading out to a place don't know 100%

Sandy Schultz

You should have gone into Walmart and purchased their highway atlas. It is a handy thing to have......at least you are in a relatively warm place.

Paul A. Tamburello, Jr. aka pt at large

Just think...it wasn't all that long ago that all we needed was a road map, maybe a list of directions, and we headed into unknown territory without thinking about it. All our technological gizmos have broken that link with our pioneering spirit!

Carolyn Liesey

This is very funny and worthy of a wider audience. Thanks.

Phil Woodbury

Not all who wander are lost…
but it sounds like you certainly were. Isn't one of the reasons we love SW Louisiana that folks cook crawfish in a barrel not a microwave, make music with their own voices and instruments not an iPod, and find their way around without a GPS?

Paul A. Tamburello, Jr. aka pt at large

They certainly have ingenuity, resilience and spirit. They also have the country roads and routes embedded in their DNA. They need a GPS? Not any more than they need voice training to sing.

Susan Lyman

Hilarious Paul
But probably not so hilarious to you in the moment!!!
