Gator By The Bay
May 9, 2014
San Diego, CA
Gator By The Bay just might be the great granddaddy of all music/dance festivals. Three days of dancing to the most eclectic assembly of vocalists and bands spread across stages in Spanish Landing Park within sight of San Diego Bay. Five stages featuring Zydeco, Blues, Cajun, Rockabilly, Jazz, East/West Coast Swing, Western Swing, Country, even a bit of Salsa.
Bands I’ve never heard of pump out fabulous music on the three stages open on Friday from 4 PM to 10 PM. How about Fanny and the Attaboys/Rockabilly and Palomino/country swing at the Fountain Stage. They're all fabulously danceable.
And Linnzi Zaorski/Indie jazz and swing from New Orleans; Janiva Magness (female Blues artist of the year)/Roots, Rock and Soul; and Blue Largo/traditional blues and swing at the Bourbon Stage.
And Lance Dieckman with Annette da Bombe/Blues,Harp and Soul; and the ultimate zydeco showman, Grammy winner Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band at the Festival Stage.
Those are but seven of the twelve acts that played Friday from 4 pm to 10 pm. The Mardi Gras Stage and the Bayou Grove Stages open today.
Nearly 40 acts. Lord have mercy.
