Founders Myke Farricker and Paul Tamburello have teamed up since 2003 to make ceremonial bike rides after the Ride To Defeat ALS , formerly known as 'A Positive Spin for ALS', has taken place.
Since 2007, our ride has been a short haul from The Outer Reach Resort in Truro to the Pilgrim First Landing Park at the very end of Route 6A. Averaging a little over 14 mph for 7.5 miles the ride goes by in a flash, especially with Myke cracking jokes as he drafts me. We get serious when we reach the park and jetty and recount the cause and the people we ride for. Myke's brother Pete, my dear friend Janet Speers and hundreds of others, are just two of the "honorary riders," we've taken with us over the years.
One finger, four fingers...2014!
Two rituals at every post spin spin: ceremony at on the jetty and a photo opp.
We acknowledge the men and women who've succumbed to or are living with the disease and the vow to keep on trucking till a cure is found. Myke honors his brother Pete, who was always on a list of "honorary riders," names of ALS patients I carried with me every year sent me by friends and families and read aloud on the jetty after each ride.
