By mid afternoon Saturday, the narrow food concourse is packed. Aromas of chicken, beef, pork, sausage, burgers, boudin, and hot dogs being cooked on grills, smokers, and propane stoves drifts thickly through the corridor, adding to the difficulty or making menu choices. The array of food in such a short corridor is staggering… home made ice cream, beignets and pecan pies, boiled crawfish, jambalaya and shrimp etouffée, snow cones were all popular.
My gold star goes to Flavors of East Africa http://www.flavorsofeastafrica.com that served jerk chicken, sweet or spicy, with collard greens and dirty rice covered with lentils in coconut sauce for $8.00.
The lovely water installation topped with statues of a carefree family cast in black bronze captivates everyone who passes by.
Hats, whether the whimsical paper bag types created by kids of all ages were evident everywhere
Hat vendors did a brisk business ...
as did vendors of clothing, jewelry, and crafts. Women's clothing vendors were busy most of the weekend, offering fabulous outfits for dancing, lounging, relaxing and beaching.
