The northernmost outpost of the Caribbean, it’s own third world county, the land of dreams, New Orleans is all of those. With food from red beans and rice to five star cuisine, the jazz and its offshoots from the cradle in which they was born, it’s a city of contradictions. It’s high crime rate and pockets of poverty are counterbalanced with a generosity of spirit I’ve never seen in any other city.
Question - why would anyone travel to tropical New Orleans at the end of July when The Central Business District and the French Quarter hold the heat like a brick oven, you could fry an egg on car hoods and the humidity is great for growing tomatoes.
Answer – the 15th annual Satchmo Summerfest, three days of New Orleans style jazz by local singers, musicians who were weaned on the music of Louis Armstrong, who was born in New Orleans on August 4, 1901.
Photos, stories to come...too busy having a grand time in New Orleans to write!
