Thank you, Paul, for honoring Toussaint's remarkable musical genius with this article, bringing him back to life on the written page celebrating his last performance with such elegance and heart. I especially enjoyed the poignant story spun in lyrics reminiscing his childhood trip back to his roots in the 1935 Buick which were so personal and sweet. I also enjoyed the lyrics of Southern Nights, as I could feel the words coming to life. I can't imagine a more fitting way for Mr. Toussiant to say farewell to his devoted fans, than passing to his hereafter right after performing on stage in Spain, doing what he loved best...leaving footprints in the hearts of his audience. May his soul rest in peace eternally & his memory live on in the hearts of his audience!

The man had a gift for connecting with others. I've watched several videos featuring him since he died and they come close to, but can't match, the power he had to connect in person in concert. It felt like he had some kind of interpersonal radar that talked to YOU as you listened. Thanks for your thoughtful comments on these posts.
